Fortaleza - Tequila Blanco is made from 100% Blue Weber agave cultivated in Jalisco, harvested only when fully mature. Piñas are slow‑cooked to convert inulin into fermentable sugars, then crushed to release the sweet juice.

Fermentation proceeds in stainless steel tanks with natural or selected yeasts before the wash is distilled, typically twice, in copper pot stills or stainless steel columns. For reposado and añejo styles, the spirit rests in oak barrels, where it develops additional complexity while keeping agave character at the forefront.

Production is carried out with respect for tradition and modern quality standards, yielding a tequila that reflects discipline and heritage.

Fortaleza

Fortaleza is one of the most respected artisanal tequila brands from Mexico, rooted in tradition and family heritage. The brand traces its origins back to the late nineteenth century, when Don Cenobio Sauza, a pioneer in tequila production, purchased the land and distillery in Tequila, Jalisco. Generations later, his descendant Guillermo Erickson Sauza revived the family’s historic La Fortaleza distillery, which had been dormant for decades, and brought it back to life with a commitment to craft and authenticity.

What sets Fortaleza apart is its unwavering adherence to traditional methods. The agave is slow-cooked in small stone ovens, then crushed with a traditional tahona wheel—a massive stone wheel pulled in a circular pit to press the agave fibers and release their juices. Fermentation takes place in open-air wood tanks, and distillation is carried out in small copper pot stills. Every step emphasizes patience and heritage rather than industrial efficiency. The result is tequila that reflects the earth, agave, and craftsmanship of Jalisco in its purest form.

The brand produces a classic lineup of Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and limited releases, all bottled in hand-blown glass with rustic charm. The flavor profiles are widely admired for their depth, showcasing roasted agave, natural sweetness, mineral notes, and a complexity that comes only from old-world methods. Collectors and tequila purists regard Fortaleza as a benchmark for what tequila should be, especially in an era where many brands have turned to mass production.

More than just a drink, Fortaleza represents cultural continuity and respect for tradition. It is a bridge between Mexico’s past and present, proving that authenticity and craftsmanship can thrive even in a modern spirits market dominated by volume and marketing. Owning a bottle of Fortaleza is seen as owning a piece of tequila history, one crafted with integrity and passion.
