Jean-Michel Gerin

Jean-Michel Gerin is a highly respected Rhône Valley winemaker, based in the prestigious Côte-Rôtie appellation in northern Rhône. Coming from a family with deep roots in the region, he began bottling wine under his own name in the 1980s, establishing himself as one of the leading modern voices of Côte-Rôtie while still honoring the traditions of the land.

The estate vineyards are located on some of Côte-Rôtie’s most prized slopes, including La Landonne and Les Grandes Places. These sites are extremely steep, with schist-rich soils that yield small amounts of concentrated, expressive Syrah. Gerin is known for meticulous vineyard work, hand harvesting, and careful winemaking that balances power and finesse. His wines often carry a sense of intensity, with bold fruit and structure, yet they remain elegant and age-worthy.

Over time, Jean-Michel Gerin expanded his holdings and also introduced wines from other Rhône crus, including Condrieu made from Viognier. His sons, Michaël and Alexis, are now actively involved in the estate, carrying forward the family tradition with a mix of innovation and respect for the terroir.

The Gerin name has become synonymous with authenticity, precision, and the pure expression of Syrah in its most refined form. The wines are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who value the combination of old-vine fruit, exceptional terroir, and a winemaking style that captures both the strength and the elegance of Côte-Rôtie.
