Lagavulin

Lagavulin is a highly revered brand of single malt Scotch whisky, and one of the most iconic distilleries on the Isle of Islay, a small island off the west coast of Scotland famous for its intensely peated whiskies. The name itself is a Gaelic term meaning "hollow by the mill," and the distillery has been legally producing whisky since 1816, though illicit distilling on the site dates back even further.

What sets Lagavulin apart is its signature smoky, peaty character, which is a result of a long, slow distillation process and the use of heavily peated barley. The whisky is matured in oak casks, with the flagship expression, the Lagavulin 16 Year Old, often aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. This maturation imparts a rich complexity, balancing the powerful smoke and sea-salt notes with hints of sweetness, dried fruit, and a long, warming finish.

Lagavulin has earned a reputation as a "connoisseur's whisky," beloved for its bold, uncompromising flavor profile. It is a cornerstone of the Diageo spirits portfolio and was notably one of the original whiskies in the "Classic Malts of Scotland" collection, which showcased the distinct regional styles of Scotch whisky. The brand has also gained significant pop culture recognition, thanks to its association with actor Nick Offerman, who has become a prominent ambassador and has even released special editions of the whisky.
