Raul Perez

Raúl Pérez is not just a brand but a highly respected and influential Spanish winemaker known for his intuitive and minimalist approach to crafting unique, terroir-driven wines. Widely regarded as a visionary, he has been a central figure in the movement to redefine Spanish winemaking, particularly in his native region of Bierzo.

Pérez's winemaking philosophy is centered on a deep respect for the land and old vines. He is known for a "hands-off" approach in the cellar, utilizing whole-bunch fermentation, natural yeasts, and minimal intervention to allow the character of the grapes and their specific vineyard sites to shine through. He believes that the winemaker's role is to facilitate the expression of the terroir, not to impose a style. This approach results in wines that are often elegant, fresh, and deeply complex, with a remarkable sense of place.

While he is most famous for his work with the Mencía grape in Bierzo, Pérez is a prolific and restless winemaker who also works with a variety of other grapes in different regions across Spain, including Rías Baixas and Ribeira Sacra. He is also involved in numerous collaborative projects with other top winemakers around the world. His diverse portfolio of wines, from his flagship Ultreia series to his many single-vineyard bottlings, consistently receives critical acclaim, solidifying his reputation as one of the most innovative and celebrated winemakers of his generation.
