Château Barde-Haut Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016 is produced on a historic 17-hectare estate situated on the eastern limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious appellations. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Merlot with smaller parcels of Cabernet Franc, cultivated on clay-limestone soils that provide excellent drainage and mineral balance. The estate follows sustainable viticultural practices, with careful canopy management and green harvesting to ensure optimal ripening and concentration in each vintage.
Harvesting is carried out by hand, with grapes sorted in the vineyard and again in the cellar to guarantee only the finest fruit is used. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, allowing for precision in extraction and fermentation kinetics. Extended maceration is employed on select lots to enhance structure, and the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel, further integrating fruit and oak.
The 2016 vintage was aged in French oak barrels, a significant portion of which were new, for approximately 18 months. This élevage allows the components to harmonize while adding depth and age-worthy structure. Blending takes place after élevage, with Merlot providing roundness and opulence, and Cabernet Franc contributing aromatic lift and length. Château Barde-Haut’s Grand Cru wines are recognized for combining traditional Saint-Émilion elegance with modern precision, and the 2016 vintage stands as a benchmark expression of this philosophy.
