Château Picard Saint-Estèphe 2019 is produced in Bordeaux’s northern Médoc, within the prestigious Saint-Estèphe appellation, an area renowned for powerful and long-lived wines. The estate’s vineyards are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, rooted in gravelly soils layered over clay and limestone. These conditions provide excellent drainage while retaining enough water to sustain the vines through dry periods, yielding grapes of concentration and natural balance.
Harvesting is done parcel by parcel to capture optimal ripeness, with careful hand selection ensuring only the finest fruit is vinified. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with each plot vinified separately to highlight the nuances of the terroir. Extraction methods, including pump-overs and maceration, are managed with precision to build structure without excessive tannin.
The 2019 vintage was matured in French oak barrels, a portion of them new, for around 12 to 14 months. This aging process integrates oak influence with the natural strength of Saint-Estèphe fruit, adding depth and harmony. The final blend emphasizes Cabernet Sauvignon for backbone and longevity, complemented by Merlot’s suppleness. Château Picard’s approach combines respect for Médoc traditions with modern cellar practices, resulting in a wine that reflects both the heritage and distinctive character of its appellation.
