Don Julio - 1942 Tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave cultivated in Jalisco, harvested only when fully mature. Piñas are slow‑cooked to convert inulin into fermentable sugars, then crushed to release the sweet juice.
Fermentation proceeds in stainless steel tanks with natural or selected yeasts before the wash is distilled, typically twice, in copper pot stills or stainless steel columns. For reposado and añejo styles, the spirit rests in oak barrels, where it develops additional complexity while keeping agave character at the forefront.
Production is carried out with respect for tradition and modern quality standards, yielding a tequila that reflects discipline and heritage.
Don Julio 1942 Tequila is an iconic and ultra-premium Añejo, renowned for its exceptional smoothness, profound complexity, and luxurious character. On the nose, it presents an opulent and inviting aroma of rich cooked agave, decadent caramel, and sweet vanilla bean, beautifully intertwined with prominent notes of toasted oak, dried fruit (such as apricot and fig), roasted nuts, and a delicate hint of dark chocolate and coffee. A whisper of tropical fruit and warm baking spices like cinnamon and clove add further depth. The palate is extraordinarily smooth, velvety, and full-bodied, offering a sublime tapestry of flavors. Sweet, slow-cooked agave leads the way, followed by a symphony of butterscotch, rich dark chocolate, roasted almond, and a luxurious crème brûlée character. The well-integrated oak provides elegant structure and hints of fine cigar box and leather, culminating in an incredibly long, warm, and utterly smooth finish that lingers with notes of vanilla, caramel, and a sophisticated, sweet oak spice.
This legendary tequila is designed for sipping and savoring on its own, best enjoyed neat in a fine snifter to fully appreciate its intricate nuances and luxurious mouthfeel. For food pairings, its unparalleled richness and depth demand equally sophisticated and robust culinary companions. For appetizers, consider indulgent options such as foie gras torchon, seared scallops with a vanilla bean sauce, or a gourmet cheese board featuring aged Gouda, Parmesan Reggiano, or a rich Stilton. For main courses, it's an exquisite partner for high-end grilled or roasted red meats like a Wagyu steak, prime rib, or slow-braised short ribs with a rich reduction. Its profound flavors can also complement dishes featuring mole poblano or other complex, savory sauces. For dessert, Don Julio 1942 finds sublime harmony with dark chocolate lava cake, a rich pecan pie, espresso-infused desserts, or a perfectly executed crème brûlée, where its caramel, vanilla, and oak notes are beautifully echoed and enhanced. It is truly a tequila to be celebrated as a luxurious digestif after an exceptional meal.
